I've never actually believed in rest when sick, and we weren't permitted to stay in bed while sick growing up. The expectation was to get up and make the best of it, though, sitting in a chair was permitted.

I had a cold this year and continued my daily exercise routine of 40-60 minutes on an elliptical. It lasted three days. I take 1000 mg Vitamin C and 30 mg supplemental zinc daily, as well as a huge amount of iodine, more than 150X the RDA. I've worked at my current employer 5 1/2 years and have never taken a sick day.

Wow that’s pretty good. Do you have any heart rate or fitness tracker data? Also what do you think is the mechanism for how activity would help rather than hinder recovery?

I wouldn't have any idea of a mechanism, other than the general sense that exercise is beneficial. Maybe the increased body temp while exercising could help kill viral invaders? That is the basis of the fever mechanism.

I don't track heart rate anymore, but it tends toward the high side due to taking a tricyclic antidepressant, which has cardiac effects. My doctors lack experience with this antiquated drug and requested I get an EKG a few weeks ago because of their collective worry. My pulse was 78 during the test. Prior to resuming taking this drug, it was in the 60's or below. BP is also up some because of this med, but not dangerously so.
